Weekly Update - WB 01.12.25
This week in Maths we have finished our work with multiplication and division. We spent time looking at our 7s, 11s and 12s then ended the week with dividing a number by 1 and itself. In English, we finished our work with The Comet. We spent time writing letters and diary entries in the role of a character. In RE we discussed the significance of food and the Langar in Sikhi and reflected on how sharing food can show equality and community. We spent time rehearsing for our '12 days of Christmas' performance and making our Christingles. In French, Year 3 looked at saying goodbye and learning to count to 10 while Year 4 learned how to give addresses. In PE, we learned how to 'tut' as part of our breakdance unit and the children have started to put together their own routine, counting carefully to ensure we are moving in beats of 8.

Weekly Update - WB 17.11.25
This week has been assessment week. We have completed assessments in Maths, Reading and SPAG to see how much the children have learnt so far and any areas that we need to revisit. The children worked very hard to demonstrate their knowledge thus far and should be proud of themselves! In PE, we started our unit on dance. The children felt a bit embarrassed about dancing in front of each other so we spent some time counting the 8 beat and making up routines to copy. In Topic, we used our map skills to locate Anglo-Saxon settlements and used the compass points to describe their distances from each other. In PSHE, we spoke about people in positions of authority in school and the wider community and explored ways to show respect. In Science, Years 2 and 3 went on a minibeast hunt to explore microhabitats before showing our findings on tally charts and pictograms. On Thursday, the school joined together to explore STEM challenges.

Weekly Update - WB 10.11.25
We've had such a busy week! This week in Maths, we have continued our work focusing on multiplication. We have specifically focused on the 2s, 4s and 8s and the pattern between these. In English, we have continued reading Charlotte's Web. This week we have been generating interesting vocabulary to describe Charlotte's web, wrote our own rhyming poem and then wrote a book review based on the story so far.
In DT, we wrote our recipes for our upcoming pottage making lesson. In French, Year 4 learnt the pattern for counting to 100 while Year 3 completed Duolingo. In Science, Year 2 and 3 learnt about different UK habitats. In Exciting Writing, we wrote non-chronological reports about animals and completed some spelling games using the Year 3 and 4 words.

Weekly Update - WB 03.11.25
Welcome back! This week in Maths, we have focused on arrays, sharing between equal groups and ensuring we are secure in our 2s, 5s and 10s. Lots of Year 3 are not feeling confident with these and will need to use TTRockstars lots at home to consolidate. In English, we continued reading our story Charlotte's Web. We spent time writing a letter of advice to Wilbur, recapping our understanding of writing speech and ended the week by writing a non-chronological report about spiders. In Science, Year 2 and 3 started our new unit - Living Things and Their Habitats. We spoke about MRS GREN as a way to remember the seven life processes before sorting items into alive, dead or non-living. Year 4 started their work on 'States of Matter' and spent time discussing the characteristics of each state of matter. In DT, we started to write our recipe for pottage using the ingredients that we liked. In RE, we looked at the festival Passover and what the foods on a seder plate represent. We continued our unit of work focusing on songs by ABBA and enjoyed our first PE session with Mrs Osbourne. In Topic, we learned all about the foul and unfair punishments that the Anglo-Saxons had. We discussed how this was different to our current justice system and how what seems so strange to us now, was completely normal around 900 years ago!

Weekly Update - WB 20.10.25
This week in Maths, we have focused on consolidating our understanding of adding and subtracting in column. We have also learned about using the inverse to check our answers, and what we can do if our answers don't match. In English, we started our new text, 'Charlotte's Web', and read the first three chapters. We wrote a diary in character as Fern, create a poem to express Wilbur's feelings and use subordinate clauses to give detail to information from the text.
In Science, Year 2 and 3 finished their unit by thinking about the different food groups and what routines we have to keep ourselves clean and healthy. Year 4 completed an end of unit quiz and finished their learning about the digestive system. In PSHE, we spoke about active listening and how we can use this to show that we are being respectful. In English Exciting Writing we wrote stories based on the themes in The Iron Man. In French, Year 3 focused on how to ask 'comment ca va?' and appropriate answers while Year 4 looked at counting in 10s using mathematical language. In Art, the children planned and created their final piece using printing, and we looked at how the internet works in Computing. Finally, we watched The Iron Giant to end our unit of work on The Iron Man.
Weekly Update - WB 13.10.25
This week in Maths, we have focused on using column method to add and subtract three-digit or four-digit numbers with an exchange. We also have been using Hit The Button to increase our recall speed of addition facts within 20. Year 4 then moved onto some problem solving type questions. In English, we planned and wrote our own endings to the Iron Man before we continue reading it as our class text. The children had to think carefully about punctuating speech and using interesting adjectives to describe the space-bat-angel-dragon. We also published our newspaper articles using pen which was very exciting and grown up!
In RE, we looked at the importance of food in Islam. The children learned what is meant by 'halal' and 'haram' and worked out which foods were halal for Muslims to eat. In Science, Years 2 and 3 completed our experiment to find out what happens to our heart rate when we exercise. In Computing, the children went on a technology hunt around school to see if they could locate parts of our network such as desktop computers, wireless access points and the server. In DT, we started to think about which ingredients we would like to include in our own pottage recipes. In Topic, we designed a map of an Anglo-Saxon village using a key. Finally, on Monday the children took part in Harvest festival celebrations at the church!
Weekly Update - WB 06.10.25
This week in Maths, we have been adding and subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s across boundaries and then ended the week looked at connections between learn number facts that we already know. In English, we have planned and written a newspaper article based on The Iron Man returning and disturbing a family's peaceful picnic!
In Science, the YR2 and 3 planned an experiment to see how the heart responds to exercise and closed their eyes while we tried to find our heart rates. YR4 conducted an experiment looking at how drinks impact the enamel on teeth. In Topic, the children finished creating a poster to be an Anglo-Saxon for the day. In PSHE, we looked at the rights of the child and thought about which ones were most important to us. In Art, the children did some printing and started to compose their own pieces in Music. We ended the week with discussing World Mental Health Day (10th October) and we completed some activities based on this. All of KS2 played a group game of duck, duck goose to get the feel good endorphins pumping.


Weekly update – WB 29.09.25
This week in Maths, we have been learning about rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. This has been quite a tricky concept, so we have recapped what a multiple of 10, 100 and 1000 is and what it cannot be. In English, we have continued our work around The Iron Man. We've planned, written and edited a diary entry from the perspective of Hogarth once the town create a plan to catch TIM.
In Science, Year 4 planned an experiment to see how different liquids impact enamel whilst Years 2 and 3 learned about how to look after different animals - a stick insect, chameleon or budgie. In RE, we learnt more about Holy Communion and why this is important to some Christians. In French, we learnt how to say our names and to ask someone else their name. Year 4 also looked at dans ma ville, il y a... or il n’y a pas de... to say what there is or is not in Kimbolton. In Computing, we looked at how devices are connected and created a computing network. In DT, the children tasted ingredients and followed a recipe to make a pottage. They will use this information to plan their own pottage recipe soon!
Weekly update – WB 22.09.25
Oak have been busy this week. Year 4 have been to Graham for their residential trip and Year 3 have been enjoying their learning in school.
In English, we started our work on The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We looked at similes and metaphors before creating a role on the wall for the Iron Man. In Maths, we have looked at number lines and recapped how to work out the value of intervals. In Science this week, Year 2 and 3 explored the human life cycle in more detail, thinking about what we can do at different stages of our lives. To celebrate European Day of Languages, we sang some songs to help us learn the days and months in French.


Weekly update – WB 15.09.25
This week in Maths, we have been focusing on partitioning and flexible partitioning. We then ended the week looking at 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 more and less than a given number. In English, we finished our work on specific Year 3 and 4 grammar. We looked at being verbs, having verbs and explored regular and irregular action verbs and verb phrases. In Topic, we explored the important Anglo-Saxon settlements, using atlases to support us. In DT, we looked at farm foods and sorted these into reared, grown and caught. This will be a large part of our cooking unit. In Computing, we started our unit looking at computer networks. In Science, Year 2 and 3 looked at different life cycles, focusing on how these animals change over time. Year 4s discussed the names and functions of different teeth. In French, Year 3 learnt greetings in French while Year 4 learned how to ask and answer 'where do you live?'
Weekly update – WB 08.09.25
Our first full week in Oak has been full of learning! In Maths, we have been exploring place value in numbers up to 1,000. We have started to talk about flexible partitioning to really understand the value of digits. In English, we have explored common and proper nouns, collective nouns, and partitive nouns.
In PE, we started our unit of work on hockey. In Science, Year 3 looked at different types of animals, their characteristics and matched the young to the adult animal. Year 4 looked at food chains with a focus on producers and consumers. In PSHE, we looked at the difference between wants and needs. In Exciting Writing, we composed nonsense poems called ‘What I didn’t do this summer.’ In outdoor learning, we learned a little bit about the different types of clouds before doing some cloud watching! In Art, the children researched information about Zandra Rhodes and found out about Anglo-Saxon gods and goddesses in Topic. Have a fab weekend!


Weekly update – WB 01.09.25
What a gorgeous start to the year Oak has had! We’ve started work on our new topic, Anglo-Saxons and Scots, and completed fun activities around them. We’ve written messages in runes, researched questions and played our class Blooket, created clay carvings and baked Anglo-Saxon scones. We’ve also started our work on ABBA for music and completed some of our KWHL grids.
