Handwriting in Ash Class
In Ash Class we follow the Nelson Handwriting scheme. Nelson Handwriting is a whole-school programme designed to help all children develop a confident, legible and personal handwriting style and meet higher curriculum expectations. This page offers some resources to help support you to help your child practise handwriting at home.
The children are first taught to write the individual letters in the following sequence:

- e s f
- i l t
- u y j k
- r n m
- h b p
- v w x z
The Four Joins
Once the children have mastered the individual letters they are taught the 4 joins.
1. to letters without ascenders (un um ig id ed eg an or ing ung)
2. to letters with ascenders (ch sh th tl ll ill sli slu ck ack st sti ink unk)
3. horizontal joins (od pg re ve oon oom)
4. horizontal joins to letters with ascenders (wl vl of ff fl flo)
The break letters
The following letters are not followed by a join.
