Week Commencing 28th October 2019

Week Commencing 28th October 2019

We have had a busy start to this half term with lots of Diwali activities. In RE we have been learning about the story of Rama and Sita and designing and making our own diva lamps as part of our DT sessions. The children thought carefully about how they would decorate their diva lamps to help celebrate Diwali. Year 1 also completed some reading challenges and comprehension activities. Linking to Diwali, in forest school we made golden wreaths to put up outside as part of our Diwali celebrations. We explored leaves that were turning Autumn colours and collected golden leaves to make wreaths. The children worked in teams to make a golden wreath together.

In maths we have been learning to recognise the addition and equals symbols confidently. We have been learning about adding two single digit numbers together using objects. Year 1 have been completing some maths addition challenges using dominoes. Reception have also been learning to recognise 2D shapes by making their own paper pizzas! They had great fun designing their own and then counting the different shaped ingredients.

In English this week we have been reading a funny story called The Queen's Knickers. The children have been making lost posters to help the Queen find her knickers and have been using adjectives to describe them. They have also been taking part in some role play activities, pretending to be characters from the story and thinking about what they might say. The children have made a fab start to the Autumn term and it's great to see Reception children coming into school so confidently. Enjoy the weekend!
