Week commencing 2nd September 2019

Week commencing 2nd September 2019

Wow! What a fantastic start to the new school year we have had! Year 1 have been great role models for our new reception children and reception have made a smooth transition into life in Ash Class. I am so very proud of the start they have made!

This week we have been learning about our class routines and exploring the resources and continuous provision within the classroom. We enjoyed our first whole school assembly and even managed a fire drill! Reception have been creating some self-portrait art work for the classroom using paints. They looked carefully in the mirror and thought about the colours they might want to use. Year 1 have been using pencil to sketch their own self-portraits. They used ipads to take a photo of themselves and then used this to support their sketches. Year 1 have started learning about our new topic - Great Great Britain. We started by recording what we already know about Great Britain and what we would like to find out. The children came up with some fab questions such as 'why is the flag red, white and blue?'

We are looking forward to another busy week next week, when we welcome reception to stay all day!
