Week Commencing 6th January 2020

Week Commencing 6th January 2020

What a fantastic start to the term with a whole school trip to Grafham Water Centre! The children spent two days participating in a range of outdoor adventure activities which included orienteering, team building, problem solving , bouldering, den building and fire lighting. We enjoyed toasting our marshmallows on the camp fire after searching for the perfect toasting sticks! The children really enjoyed the two days and coped with the change of routine really well. They enjoyed sitting together to eat our packed lunches and talking about our day. On Wednesday we all came back to school and spent time talking about our favourite activities at Grafham Water. The children wanted to write thank you letters to their instructors so together we discussed how to write a letter. The children then wrote their own thank you letters, thanking the staff for a brilliant time and telling them about their favourite part. Reception have been exploring shapes this week, reminding themselves of 2D and 3D shape names, sorting shapes and discussing their properties.

In science this week, we have been learning about the seasons and different types of weather. We spent time observing the weather on the school grounds and then year 1 put together their own weather reports which we filmed. We then explored the different seasons and seasonal changes that take place. Reception and year 1 enjoyed recording the changes they have observed of the trees. Year 1 organised the months of the year into the seasons, recording each of the months with careful spelling. We have all enjoyed exploring some books by our new author of the month, Judith Kerr, this week. Feel free to visit the local library to see if you can find any!

Our new topic this term is Castes: Mottes and Moats. Year 1 have been set homework to find out some facts about castles. Espresso is a good place to start! Reception have also been set a chatty homework this week. Please come and ask if you are unsure about what to do.

Wishing you all a restful weekend!
